I wonder if house-husbands are anything like house Hippos?

So remember when I said (in sideline) that I offered to switch places with hubby to shut him up, and I would go back to work, and he would stay home?
A big YaY to that coming true.

He's done on the 11th of Feb. and I start back at my jobs(see plural, although, funny enough, I don't have to work as many hours as he does to make the same pay, and I'm in town) on Consumerist Valentine's day, which upon returning home I expect a fucking super romantic and fantastic meal from my newly appointed house-husband. my man-bitch, if you will. (cuz, you know, I was planning on making spaghetti and asking hubby to re-enact lady and the tramp with it, hopefully enraging him to the point that he leave the dinner table couch, therefore leaving me more yummy spaghetti.)

What's even more funny is that I'm excited about this. Hubby must have asked what the right decision would be to me, and if I was sure, and if I was sure I was sure, etc, and on, and on. He made sure he double and triple checked to make sure we could have transition time to get youngest used to daddy-all-day, and wean baby off boob. Not necessarily boob milk, but boob, which actually comes just in time as youngest is cutting three teeth at once, so that would suck.  I don't know why they call it cutting teeth, it would probably be more humane to actually cut the gums and let the teeth come through, cuz right now all I see are teeth through thin layer of gum, a tray of ice cubes being gnawed away every day, and little clam-shaped bruises on my shoulders. But I digress.

So after much discussion and worrying, and a tiny bit of bullshit, my hubby is on his vacation for the next two weeks, and then he takes over the remainder of my parental, which is only going to be for the next three months anyways, but it gives us transition time to find the right amount of hours for me to work to cover that cash.

Ohhh, my poor hubby. I don't think he's quite realized what he's gotten himself into. this will be fun!

pain.vs. Shut you face

Hubby's just gone back to work on Monday after a week off with a bum knee. Before he went on workers comp, he was ready to quit because, well, the week he hurt his knee also happened to be the week his head went 'Fuck Sleeping!' and since he thinks a man isn't supposed to see a doctor unless it's broken or gushing blood (and even then), he just let his injuries fester until his boss noticed that he was limping and looked like shit. (That's my brave strong man...) Of course he works out of a truck, so his boss didn't get to see him like this until friday when he went to drop off paperwork.
Then he spent this last week at home, bored out of his mind and unable to leave the house, since the injury turned out to be a second degree MCL sprain on his right knee, which is the driving knee. So he spent the whole week rearranging my kitchen, critiqing my mommy skills, rearranging those, writing out new schedules for youngest so that he can get the most out of the day, and then bitching that youngest doesn't like him, because, while youngest is teething, he prefers my shoulders to daddy's to bite, so he's not been really all that cuddly to daddy at all.

Therefore, I was extremely excited for this past Monday to come, as I would have my house to myself, my kitchen could be put back to order, and my son's schedule put to rights as well. But on Sunday night, I heard murmers and whines of what he had said on the days leading up to his week off, about him hating the company, and wanting to quit, though there were no ways out of it, that he really should just take me up on the offer of transfering the remainder of the parental benifits over to him and having Me go back to work(yes, people I offered to go back to work just to shut him up, because I know within three weeks of us having switched places, he will be begging me to switch back.)

So I sent him a love note on Monday, via video text, with this lovely contraption. I have to say my Efforts were not all that greatly received.

Hotdog Fingers?

Youngest is teething. yay. This wouldn't be a horrible thing, usually, but he seems to be teething both his bottom and one of his tops all at the same time. He doesn't sleep for more than an hour, he rubs his face on everything, (which either pokes him in the eye or he headbutts.) he bites EVERYTHING (My shoulders are going to have permanent bruising, and my shirts have shoulder holes) he's clingy, whiny, fever-ey, rash-ey, and all around bitchy. This has run for about a week and will continue to run until his body gives up on fighting these nefarious enameled stabby things, and when the bitches finally pop through.
We tried oragel, but he sorta started choking on his own spit, so we ditched that idea and used the rest of the tube on ourselves. that was kinda fun...
We tried icecubes in cheesecloth, but they melted to fast, and dribbled all over the carpet.
We tried just a cold washcloth, but he wouldn't touch it unless our fingers were inside it. Hubby had the ingenious thought that we could replace our fingers with a hotdog. I made him clean up the mess.
We tried teething toys, but he chewed on one so hard, or twisted it or something, that it cracked and I think the stale distilled water inside kinda put him off any other toy going in his mouth. Which is both a good and bad thing.

So now we just use our fingers, and will bank this in the 'things to embarress youngest with when he's older, and possibly blackmail to get money out of get him to contribute to our retirement fund.'
Also, luckily for us, he's now pulling himself up on everything, so everything goes in his mouth, and although I've been trained once before, hubby has yet to find out that baby-proofing  means 'put every fucking thing you own up higher than 4.21 feet, or else it's fucking garbage or a trip to the E.R.', though I'm sure he'll find out soon enough.

Anyways,
just a small update since I really seem to have shit the bed since the beginning of this year.
yeah

I'd apologize, but I've been tending to the 'dying'. Also, I live in the same house with the best bunch of actors I've seen since Spartacus.

So here it is, New years is upon us, and I dropped the ball. I meant to get a post in everyday this month, but X-mas came, followed by boxing day, followed by three days of every male member of my family getting fevers and rashes. Although the only whining that was really necessary was perhaps from the baby... These are my excuses. So here I am, exhausted and a little worried about the New Year, full of last minute prep for the house gathering I didn't know I was having until 4 o'clock this morning, barely existing off caffeine and sugar from all the baking that no one ate on x-mas. I'm probably going to ring in the new year by sleeping in my youngest's room while the party goes on around me. Such is the life of a mom I guess...

Updated:
So I guess when I was talking with hubby I misunderstood him, it being, you know, 4 in the god-damned morning. Apparently the gathering is not here, but at one of hubby's friends house. And we're just to bring one thing for the 'potluck'. I told him I'm not leaving the house with two small children in tow if I'm not sure I'll be able to stay awake to watch them. So I'm going to spend a quiet new years at home with my kiddies, bestest Saskabusch friend and a bottle of wine, and hubby and anyone else is welcome to join us, since I have now made enough party snacks to feed a small army. fuck sakes. guys have no management skills. Dumbass.

New Nephew!

My hubby's sister had their baby on Thursday Night, a nice little baby boy, Easton. My hubby thinks it's funny that they're naming their kid after sports equipment, but I don't think it ever crossed their minds. She had to have a c-section because the baby's heart was slowing down, so she's going to be in there for a few days. Her mom said she booked a special private room in the hospital, but since she had the C, she can't have it because it doesn't have an adjustable bed. I'm not so sure what a special private room would include, mebbe a view that's not of the parking lot or cafeteria.....
Anyways, going to see them all today, although apparently you can't bring kids on the ward unless they belong to the one in the ward, which, whatever...

Wordless Wednesdays #4. Laugh Riot

The First real Giggling we've seen so far, and he only does it for daddy. But to make me feel better, hubby looks re-donkulous, and will probably take more than a bit of flak for this, so it's all good.

btw, this was the one I couldn't download directly because google doesn't like high-def video. Take THAT GOOGLE!!! Hah!!!

Whoever Thought up Daylight Savings time, needs to be Bitch Slapped

Fuck you World.
Indeed.
How is it that all the new fucking alarm clocks all have this DST thing built into them, and they don't have a setting for those of us in the world that don't participate in it?
Bugger all.

Anyways.
So Hubby is gone for Three weeks, to LLoydminster to relieve some co-workers and get into the good points bin with the bosses. He's also been sick all weekend, with a bad stomach flu virus, and after grumping and groaning all of Saturday, he thought the worst had passed on Sunday, you know that fleeting feeling that all is right with the world and you are SUperman... By lunch on Sunday, he was back in bed, after graciously harfing hotdogs all over me. It's a good thing I already hate hotdogs, or this would've put me off... Then, This Morning, all of our alarm clocks failed to go off, since they thought it was an hour earlier, which wasn't a big deal since we were up at 5 am anyway, but since our time doesn't change, and also that Lloydminster sits on the borderline, they DO fall an hour behind, so Hubby had some time to kill before heading off today. So he I finished his packing, and he laid on the couch and shivered, and did his inner turmoil dance on how he Should go, but didn't want to cuz he felt like crap on a bun, blah, blah, blah. And then he went. And I am free to keep a clean house for almost a MONTH!!!!!!
Of course, he'll be home on the weekends, so I'll have things to do on Monday, but still. Plus, money! so, yay!

I want pancakes.  So I going to make them. with bananas. yum. And then possibly take a nap, because as I was reading this post back to myself I realized that it doesn't make sense, but I can't possibly make it any better right now, so sleep will be necessary to fix the glitch in my brain that seems to be happening.

I reeally, really, suck.... Flag Football 2010

And continuing on with the Suckiness which is my procrastination, Here are the videos from Eldest's and Hubby's Last Flag Football Game. If I was more coordinated, and knew what I was doing, these would've been pieced together into one, but as i am a technology noob in every sense of the word, they are not. Not sure how much more work I saved in the long run though...

Running Catches before the game.

In the opening huddle.

Eldest throwing the ball to the Quarterback, No clue what the position is. (Marvel at my magnificent Camera-work)
It's always a battle to see who gets the flag.
Coach doing what he do best. Eldest as Quarterback.

Kay, I would have more of the actual Game, but at this point the  other team had tackled our guys three times(which is punishable by severe penalty or benching. it's flag football people) two of which resulted in bloody noses and one with a nasty knee bruise for our kids, and after the second one hubby-Coach let other Coach know that his kids needed to stop tackling or they would stop the game. The other Coach laughed in his face and kept encouraging his kids to tackle. Hubby-Coach called half-time right after the third hit, and once again warned the Coach that the Kid sport crew and the Community association  would definitely hear about his behaviour. The other coach called the game, saying that if they couldn't hit, it wasn't football. Hubby-Coach then asked for a handshake from the teams, out of good manners, and then gave his team a congratulatory, and easily over-heard speech on how good  they were for obeying the rules, and didn't hurt anyone, even though they might have wanted to.

Then:
Clean up time, since game was over. If you look really hard, you can see other team doing their own game by themselves, complete withe kids tackling still.(also you can tell which kid is mine, since he stops everything just to pose for the camera.)
The Parents of our kids were mighty impressed by the way things were handled by our team, and in fact encouraged hubby to come back next year to Coach. The kids did too.
Here is the result

And there, in a nutshell and really long post, is the last game of Flag Football.
And then we went to walmart. But that's not really part of the story...

Big Boy's night in

My Husband and I have come up with a plan, that every couple of weekends one of us gets either an In night, or an Out night, on a rotational basis of course. Well Let me tell you about a little thing called the Evening's best intentions.
It was my Hubby's turn last night, and he got a couple of guys together for an In night, (football/hockey/videogame hockey was on) so him and said buddies went shopping like little girls for sports food, booze, and other such things. They came home with smelly cigars, tonnes of finger food, and a bottle of rye with pop for mix. When they arrived back at the domain, they huffled and gloated on how, 'This is going to be awe-some, man', and how they bought enough stuff to last them through the 7+ hour marathon of sports and pigging out that was to happen at a steadily drunkened pace. This is the Evening's Best Intentions.

Reality? They each poured a little too heftily in their glasses, so that by two glasses in, they were waayy ahead of the game. They pigged out on the finger foods, so that 10 minutes into the game, they were all stuffed to the brim. They lasted roughly an hour and a half before the first of them succumbed to slumber, and by the end of the football game, all were not-so-silently snoring into their respective chests.

My turn comes Nov. 13th, with a whole bunch of us ladies making a big Mexican Feast, with nary a drop of the good stuff to be found, as most of us have babies, and the others are 'dieting'. I wonder what our Evening's Best Intentions will amount to. lol

Attention all you doomsdayers!!!!

Listen up!

There's new evidence saying that the Constant they used for Calculating and mapping out the Mayan Calendar is probably Wrong. See? Take that, Crazy buschwackers who refuse to let their children have friends because "The world's gonna end in 2 years anyways" (as seen in Wife Swap) Those who are fans of Science, know that the current theory isn't necessarily right, it just hasn't been disproved yet.

My son the parrot, and Stereotypes proved right

My son's last day of Flag football was yesterday, and being that my hubby's out of town for work, we had to have our assistant coach step up to the plate. I'm probably the only one who notices it, but there is a super distinct change in listening skills with the kids when an alternate Coach comes on. My hubby tends to leak authority where ever he goes, and even from the first moments of him coaching, the team was well aware of who held that authority. This other dad just doesn't seem to hold it. but I digress.

I wanted to talk about sonny's last full game of flag football for two reasons. #1 being how my son stood up for himself, and #2 being Mr. coulda-made-it-to-the-big-time coachie of the opposing team.

So without further ado:

#1. My son has always had issues with standing up for himself, he would never hurt a flea. He's somewhat an emotional child as well, which has always given me little pangs of grief for how his school upbringing will be, and  the torture he'll go through. We all know about bullying, and we all know that the bullies who do the worst damage are the ones that we never even suspect to be the bullies. Besides, my son's never even been able to take a hit, he got pushed by a 3 year old, (even though this kid had ham hocks for arms and a mean left hook) and he just fell down and then walked away from the kid without saying a word. We had to show him how to stand up for himself, and this has been an ongoing thing, what to say, how to react, that it's okay to show emotions but not to give in to them.etc...

So last night, during pre-game warm up, they were practicing catching the ball. Sonny and another child both got their hands on it, and wrestled a little. Meanwhile, another kid, lets call him bob, runs over to the wrestling pair, shouts at sonny that the other kid had got it, and then, even though the two on the ground were giggling and not really fighting over the ball, bob goes over to sonny, yells that he never got the ball, why doesn't he just quit now, he's not very good, and then bops him on the head, not just a little bop either, he reared up for it.

And what does sonny do?

Well, he gets up, no tears, and goes over to bob, and give him the whatfor in Mommy speak.

Example: How dare you hit me! Don't ever do that again! That was just stupid! You try that again and you won't like what happens next!.

So I guess we need to work on what to say when someone bullies you, but I'm so very glad that he had the courage not to just lie there and cry, but to get up and get back in that kid's face and tell him it was NOT okay to do that.

#2. We all know or at least have heard of the Guy who played Football in his highschool years, perhaps his college years, was very good and had hopes of going pro, but just wasn't quite good enough to get there? The guy who stays up late at night to draw out plays, and relive old days, watching each football game that's on t.v. with a renewed fervor, knowing all the mistakes and coming up with alternate plays that 'Surely would've done the trick'? The guy who has all the sports packs on tv, in HD, The guy who has tsn.com and espn.com on bookmark, the guy who makes sure to answer all the tsn polls even if they're just on Jersey colour?
The guy who still wears his college t-shirts to anything and everything, even if they're massively sweat-stained, holey, and don't quite fit anymore?

Well, that's the guy who coached the opposite team. I wish I had a picture, it was extremely stereotypical, like he looked up all the symptoms for a failed NFL/CFL player, just so he could look the part right...

Sorta like:

or maybe like:

you get the picture...( he was a fantastic character, btw, too bad they changed him up for a chick...)

Anyways, he spent the entire game yelling at his team about Angles, ANGLES!, checking his CFL regulated clipboard, blowing his whistle, and sweating profusely.

It was Classic.

And by the way, I told hubby about this, who is sort of a minor version of this type of guy, but with baseball, and he told me that they don't do angle training until highschool or later, whatever that means. But attempt to teach a 6 year old this, a 6 year old who is still only able to aim inside the toilet bowl about 60% of the time, seems kinda pointless to me...

Mourning the loss of play for a few days...

I've Decided to Do a Nablopomo Challenge, which I haven't done in AGES, and I feel like being somewhat more productive on this blog as of late.

So on that note, I want to write about my son. He's 6 years old, and loves to play. He's a very bright boy(not just being biased), and he's very extroverted when at school. However. When he gets home, he loves to go into his imaginary world, and prefers to play by himself. He has actually turned down play dates if they are going to be near his room. I know kinda weird, but I want him to know that we can respect his privacy, and that he can learn likewise to everyone else.
My son has a rat, who is very adorable, and very loving, and has certainly turned my position on rodents living in my house. My son agreed to taking on certain responsibilities when he got the rat. Particularly the feeding, caring for, and clean up of the rat. He named it Freddie, and took on those responsibilities quite well, at the start.
But since School has started again, he's shirked on his duties, and it has become a chore in it's own right to remind him to clean up after the thing, since the animal is mostly free-range in his bedroom. (He's potty trained, but slip-ups happen every once in a while)
Last evening in particular. my hubby, fed up with the constant reminding, he gave my son an ultimatum: either he get grounded, or we throw the rat away, since obviously he was done taking care of it, wasn't he?
All sarcasm gets lost on a 6 year old, and as my son thought this was an actual decision he'd have to make, he quickly jumped in with the easy way out; he would throw the rat away, that yes, he was done with the whole thing.
Well.
I read somewhat constantly on the selfishness of 6 year olds, how self-preservation tends to rule the roost at that age, but in light of this revelation of my son, I have to admit, I was shocked.

I know he didn't understand that throwing Freddie in the garbage would mean death, couldn't make the connection to that, and probably didn't think much past how you put a toy to the side when you are done playing with it. you can always come back to it later, right?

So after a stern talking to and a slap on the butt  as part of his punishment, he is now grounded for the weekend, foregoing all sports activities, playing, and reading. He is to sit on his chair and think how he can be more compassionate, and he is to help with chores all weekend. He is only to read when reading to his little brother, and he foregos all snacks in his lunch for the rest of the week(which is technically only today, but he doesn't have to know that)

I do that for my son, so he can learn to be a better person, but sometimes I wonder if I'm doing it wrong, taking the wrong route  to his growing up.

But I'm of the mind that just having a conversation with a child isn't enough, you have to make sure they feel properly bad about their choice,  that remorse is there so that they can work to rectify their mistakes...

Aww, a hemmorage? for me?

I'm going through menopause. At 24.
I have been having hot and cold flashes for the last couple of days, and dizzy spells to boot. Something's not right.
My husband says that it's due to the humidity,(cuz it's like 100% right now, which is practically unheard of for prairie land!) that I'm just getting too hot, and I should drink more water. or I have an earworm and I'm going to die.
Thanks a lot jackass, now I'm going to spend the rest of my day in the bathroom with a pair of tweezers, trying to look deep enough in my ear to see if I have an ear worm and try to get it out. I'll probably have a dizzy spell while I'm in there and crack my head on a mirror and have hemmorage in my brain, and then it will be your fault stupid husband. Thanks a lot for the hemmorage.
